GREENVILLE, Texas (Feb.—The energy in the air was one filled with elation, as local dirt track racing finally returned to the Hunt County Raceway in Greenville, Texas.
The 2026 campaign got off to an electrifying start for the track as they set up for a $1,000-to-win Outlaw Modified Showdown that featured drivers from all over Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico.
There were 114 recorded entries between the J&G Services Jr. Limited Modifieds, County Armory Factory Stocks, Bakers Ribs Limited/B-Mods, DXP Construction Services Eco Mods and Grubb’s Collision & Motorsports Modifieds.
Leading the charge in entries would be the Limited/B-Mods with 32 entries, and one of the most intriguing races of the night as well. Fiery attitudes were shown early on as Caddo, Okla., racer Tyler Malone in his No. 20J machine ended up throwing up hand signals as his night came to an end early in the first heat race for the division.
However, that was not be the most “intriguing” aspect. ‘Riskey Business’ himself, Matt Riskey, hustling his Spiderman and Scooby-Doo themed No. 29 Limited Mod around the speedway, holding off a fast and furious challenger, Boone Evans, in a close photo-finish at the line, with the deficit being just 0.099 seconds.
Two features later, the Outlaw Modifieds battled for $1,000 to win. Several drivers with high profile starts, such as Cade Dillard prodigy Talan Willis, $30,000 Sunoco USRA Factory Stock winner Dustin Henigan, and more were on the grid for the scheduled highlight of the night.
Chris Henigan put on a show from his fourth-place starting spot, passing Bo Day around the halfway mark and not looking back as the two veterans brought home a 1-2 finish. Dustin Henigan came home third with another veteran, Jason Ingalls of IRP Race Cars, in fourth and Trevor Hughes, son of the legendary Jason Hughes, rounding out the top five.
There was a lot of excitement everywhere else around the 1/4-mile clay oval, with Randy Buttery bringing home the Eco Mod victory, Chris Davis winning in the Factory Stocks and Kolby Whitworth sweeping the night in the Jr. Limited Modifieds.
